Edward Champlin @ Lyme

Edward Champlin is the 2nd great-grandfather of Belle Champlin (Edward Champlin, John Champlin, Erastus Champlin, Henry Charles Champlin, Birdie Belle Champlin).

Edward Champlin was born abt. 1720 at Lyme, Connecticut, son of John Champlin and Elizabeth Raymond. He died 23 January 1809 at Lyme. Edward married on 9 December 1742 to Elizabeth Latham, daughter of Joseph Latham and Patience Seabury. She was born abt. 1726 and died 17 December 1783. They had 12 children.

In 1751, the Colonial Assembly commissioned Edward an Ensign in the 2nd Militia Company of Lyme.

In early 1762, Edward and some neighbors were involved in a property boundary dispute with a group of local indians. The matter was resolved by arbiters 15 April 1762. A boundary line was established and although the indian's ancient burial ground remained on Edward's property, they were given continued access to it.

Edward Champlin and Elizabeth Latham are buried together in the Old Church Cemetery at East Lyme, Connecticut. "Edward's stone reads: In Memory of Mr. Edward Champlin who died Jan 23, 1809 aged 89 years. Elizabeth's gravestone is inscribed: In Memory of Mrs. Elizabeth Champlin, wife of Mr. Edward Champlin who died Dec 17, 1783 aged 57 years."
